Code Name: Distant Insight Seekers Organisation.
Real Name: A Very Good Title [HERE]!
Possible Names for A Very Good Title are: Quad Quad Hex, Strung Along.
What It Is: A Concept Movie. That sums it up nicely.
Situations
The idea of this movie is to be a somewhat fun/comedic movie, with hints of scifi - mainly in the characters interests. The characters are geeks, in the best possible open-source computer hacker (good term) light.
Plot
The story revolves around a computer-based competition or game of some sort. A game that's conceptually easy to get to the audience, but clearly a geekish game that requires a bunch of CPU grunt to calculate stuff - not graphics though! A network multiplayer strategy game (a quadratic-tree based starsystem conquest game) has been proposed for this and so far is the prime option.
The plot revolves around this game/contest, with two groups focusing on a win. The contest is an international one, but the two groups enter to see who does the best. One group goes for distributed computing, one for a monolithic machine. The two groups are friends, but their opinions differ on the "best solution" here and while each team clearly thinks the other group has the wrong method, the friendship isn't threatened by the opposing views. A third competitor emerges as the prime candidate for a chance at the title - a corporate competitor with loads of money and big egos? One of the friendly teams loses by an unfortunate mistake, but the friends team-up again to attempt to win the competition outright.
The idea here is that it shows people can have different opinions but still help each other when it comes to the crunch, and still maintain a friendship regardless. Also show off the open-source philosophies.
Characters
The main characters are geeks.
They're quirky, they don't fit many mainstream stereotypes - though they may fit into one or more alternative stereotypes.
- Brian - A well muscled person with intelligence (something that isn't often portrayed in American movies)
- Jared - The central character
- Grant - A store owner of the electronic-whiz/computer-geek variety. Fixes hardware that would otherwise be thrown out, and know how stuff works at a low-end hardware level. He is exceptionally intelligent, and a little bit older than the rest of the group.
- Baily - A female geek that has an aversion to quoting legal trivia, and is the character that tries (in vain) to keep the others out of trouble.
- Dennis - Loves to party, loves to have a good time. At some stage (before or during the script setting) Baily and Dennis have a 'thing' for each other.
- Taylor - Taylor is a fashion freak. He is a little more sedated in personality, but expresses himself through his fashion sense.
