A quick analysis of relative offsets (and the 9-5 business hours) of Silicon Valley (PST/PDT), New York (EST/EDT), London (UTC/BST) and Australia (AWST, AEST/AEDT)
PST: [67890123*123456789012345] -0800 PST: [+................+++++++] PDT: [7890123*1234567890123456] -0700 PDT: [................++++++++] EST: [90123*123456789012345678] -0500 EST: [..............++++++++..] EDT: [0123*1234567890123456789] -0400 EDT: [.............++++++++...] UTC: [*12345678901234567890123] UTC: [.........++++++++.......] BST: [12345678901234567890123*] +0100 BST: [........++++++++........] AWST: [8901234567890123*1234567] +800 AWST: [.++++++++...............] AEST: [01234567890123*123456789] +1000 AEST: [+++++++................+] AEDT: [1234567890123*1234567890] +1100 AEDT: [++++++................++]
So, compared to PST/PDT, EST/EDT, and UTC; AWST is completely non-overlapping. (in fact, PST/UTC/AWST are all mutually exclusicve for 9-5 overlaps). AEST and EST/EDT have no overlap either.
- AWST and BST have 1 overlapping hour.
- AEST and PDT have 1 overlapping hour.
- AEST and PST have 2 overlapping hours. (as does AEDT and PDT)
- AEDT and PST have 3 overlapping hours.
