I was thinking about how rain would be like if turbulence had a much greater aerodynamic effect... so the first drops slow down MUCH more than subsequent drops... you end up with a literal wall of water falling on you as all the rain catches up with the first lot, but then just becomes part of the first wave. Presumably the advantage would be that it'd all fall relatively slow, and you could see it coming very easily ;)

(An idea I had after moving to Brisbane and a week later finding myself in 48hours (so far) of pretty solid downpour. .../Nemo)
